Beyoncé breaks record for artiste with most Grammys in history

Beyoncé has become the most awarded artist in Grammys history during a historic ceremony that was held on Sunday February 5, in Los Angeles, United States

The singer, who was a late arrival at the ceremony after being stuck in traffic, won for best R&B song, best dance and electronic recording, best dance and electronic album and best traditional R&B performance. She has now won 32 Grammy awards.

“I’m trying not to be too emotional,” the 41-year-old said on stage after winning the record-breaking prize for dance and electronic album.

She also poured praises to her husband Shawn Corey Carter (Jay-Z), who many say have roots in Rwanda after her wife sung about it in ‘Mood 4 Eva’ which appeared on ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ album.

Beyoncé and the group Maverick City Music won the most awards (four) while renowned rapper Kendrick Lamar won three.

Africa shines

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems also became one of a few African artistes to bag a Grammy award. Tems who featured alongside Drake on Future’s ‘Wait for You’ took home the award for Best Rap Melodic Performance, while Burna Boy lost two nominations. She is the first Nigerian female artiste to win a Grammy award.

Tems joins other renowned musicians such as Wizkid, Black Coffee, Angélique Kidjo among others on the list of Africans that won Grammy Awards.
