Ange Postecoglou makes history as Tottenham sweep September awards

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for September 2023.

The Australian also won the award for August, becoming the first manager in Premier League history to win Manager of the Month during their first two months in the job.

Postecoglou is also the first manager since Jurgen Klopp in 2019 to win the first two Manager of the Month awards in a season. Liverpool went on to win the Premier League title that year.

It’s a good omen for Spurs, who sit top of the Premier League table after eight games this year, picking up 20 points from a possible 24 – a run of form largely buoyed by the goals of Son Heung-min, who claimed September’s Player of the Month award.

Postecoglou has been keen to distance himself from any early talk of winning the Premier League title but admitted he would not discourage fans from getting excited

“Let them enjoy it,” he said. “I’ve said this before, my role is not to burst peoples’ bubbles. Let them get excited and ahead of themselves, that’s the beauty of being a supporter.

“They go through enough pain, let them enjoy and if they think we’re going to be world-beaters great, it’s then up to us to match those expectations. Our supporters deserve to have some happiness and they can enjoy it anyway they want to.”

Spurs are back in action after the international break against Fulham, with games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea also on the horizon.
