APR Fc are Primus National League champions

APR Fc are Primus National League champions,A 2-1 victory over Gorilla at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday was all that champions APR FC needed to clinch their record 21st league title, their fourth title in a row.

The military side this time round won the title by goal difference after finishing the league season campaign tied on 63 points with runners-up Kiyovu who beat Rutsiro FC 3-1 at Muhanga Stadium to send them back in the second division.

Ben Moussa came into the game, knowing that any mistake would cost them the title.

In-form striker Innocent Nshuti put the APR ahead in the 37th minute after Gorilla FC defenders lacked communication for cleaning the ball. Bosco Ruboneka doubled the lead for the army side in the 87th minute to keep their title in their comfort zone.

Substitute Victor Murdah pulled one back for Gorilla 89th minute but it was not enough for Moussa Gatera’s side to end the season with a positive result.

Gorilla could have scored two more goals when Twizerimana and Tharcisse Nshimiyimana hit the post twice to the relief of APR who looked destined to win the Primus National League.

Meanwhile, Leandre Willy Onana scored the lone goal as Rayon Sports traveled at Golgotha Stadium to beat Sunrise 1-0.

The Cameroonian forward finished the season as the league top scorer with 16 goals.

APR finished the league with 63 points tally with SC Kiyovu but the military side had a superior goal while Rayon Sports finished in third position.

On top of the trophy, the military side went home with 30 medals and a check of 25 million.

The title means that APR will represent Rwanda at the 2023 CAF Champions League while Rayon Sports who are Peace Cup finalists will return to the African Club football stage next season to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
