ex-world 100m champion dies aged 32 years old Tori Bowie, an American sprinter who won three Olympic medals, dies.
Bowie had “an unfathomable impact on the sport,” according to USA Track and Field, who also stated she will be “greatly missed.”
At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, she won the 4×100-meter relay gold medal in addition to the 100- and 200-meter bronze medals.
She won both the 100-meter and relay gold medals at the World Championships in London the following year.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the reigning world champion in the 100 meters, paid homage on her own, saying: “My heart hurts for Tori Bowie’s family. both a fierce rival and a light.
“Your energy and smile will always be with me. Rest in peace.”
Noah Lyles, a two-time men’s world 200-meter champion and current US record holder, said: “This breaks my heart to hear, and I will keep the family in my prayers.”
In 2014, Bowie switched from long jump to the track and immediately made an impression, breaking the world record for the quickest woman.
Since Carmelita Jeter in 2011, she is the only American woman to have won an Olympic or world 100m title.
Her agent, Icon Management, stated: “We are heartbroken to announce the extremely tragic news that Tori Bowie has gone away.
