John Terry claims there is ‘another side’ to Mason Mount’s Chelsea exit

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has claimed there is more to Mason Mount’s summer departure from the club to Manchester United than meets the eye.

Mount had been unable to agree new contract with Chelsea, the club he first joined at the age of six, and was sold in a £60m transfer to United upon entering the final year of his deal.

The 24-year-old was widely criticised by Chelsea fans over a farewell video posted on social media that, based on his hair colour, appeared to have been filmed several weeks before he actually left.

“Mase is proper Chels through and through. There’s always two sides to a story and I know the other side to it. I’m not going to air that tonight but there’s another side to the story. Let’s not be too harsh on him when he comes back,” Terry said, via the Mirror.

Mount was immediately a regular under United boss Erik ten Hag throughout pre-season and seemed to have become the preferred starting option to Christian Eriksen alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes by the time the Premier League campaign began.

Sadly for the player, an injury stopped in his tracks after only a couple of appearances. He was ruled out until after the September international break and it has been reported that the opening Champions League group game against Bayern Munich on 20 September is being targeted for his return.

When will Mason Mount face Chelsea for the first time?

Mount’s first reunion with Chelsea is set to be on 6 December when the Blues visit Old Trafford in the Premier League. Assuming no cup competitions also throw them together, he go back to Stamford Bridge for the first time until the latter stages of the campaign – April 3.
