Rubaya region retaken back by FARDC-Lt Col Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko said

The mineral-rich Rubaya region has been retaken, according to the FARDC, the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

It is an area located in the Masisi Territory that was last occupied by the M23 on February 25, 2023.

Yesterday, February 28, 2023, Lt Col Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko, FARDC spokesperson in the Sokola 2 operation, announced that the FARDC managed to expel the M23 fighters from the Rubaya area after heavy fighting.

He said: “Today I want to notify you that the FARDC has retaken the Rubaya area, which is rich in precious minerals, as a result of hard effort and determination.”

The M23 was pushed back, he continued, warning the citizens of Goma and Sake not to panic or flee their homes.

Lt Col Ndjike Kaioko, added that the FARDC has been instructed to protect the area of Rubaya, Sake and Goma city at any cost.

According to our eyewitness in Masisi Territory, yesterday the FARDC used warplanes and tanks to drop bombs on M23 camps in the Sake suburbs and the Rubaya area, which made the M23 fighters look like ‘those who go back a bit but are still managing around there’
