The Rubaya region is now under control of M23

The M23 rebels have captured the Rubaya area located in Masisi territory, after the rebels had captured the Mweso area and its suburbs a few days ago.

The Masisi Territory’s Rubaya is a mineral-rich region; it is the location of the majority of mines and the place where investors are looking for them.

Nowadays, the area is home to numerous precious minerals, including coltan, cement, toromarine, manganese, and others. All of the miners and contractors fled as the area was shaken by the deafening sound of gunshots.

The Army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo FARDC, Mai Mai Nyatura Rebels, CMC, APCLS and others all ran away.

Aime Mukanda Mbusa, the leader of the civil society, confirmed this information in a Facebook post. He also confirmed that the M23 rebels continue to control Rubaya.

Rubaya is located 45 kilometers from Kibumba and 53 kilometers from Goma, the capital of North Kivu province.
