Kenya: Looters invade Kenyatta family farm, steal livestock

Things looked ugly in Kenya on Monday, March 27, with sober minds urging for rationality as, among others, an armed group invaded a vast property owned by the family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kamakis area on the Eastern Bypass.

This was as protests called by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga entered the second week.

According to Kenyan media reports, the protesters, who were chanting Mau Mau slogans, could be heard saying that they too are Kenyans and deserve to own land, just like the Kenyatta family.

Reports indicate that the people who invaded the property owned by the family of the former President were armed with crude weapons, including machetes, and clubs and were seen carting away animals like sheep.

Some journalists were stoned by the violent looters.

After holding what he described as successful protests across the country on March 20, Odinga announced he would lead Kenyans in nationwide demonstrations every Monday and Thursday. The protests were the second, coming after Odinga led the first last Monday, in defiance of the government, led by President William Ruto, who is currently in Germany.

Police in Kisumu shot dead a man in Kondele Market during Monday’s anti-government protests.
