Col Aimedo, Maj Abubakal, Capt Selekeso and about 200 FARDC soldiers were killed by M23 in the fighting that took place on Kicwa Hill in Rutshuru Territory yesterday January 2, 2023.

Col Aimedo, who was leading the fighting in that area, was killed after being bombed by M23 and he was found in his camp where he was leading the fight in the area of ​​Kicwa.

Col Aimedo was not the only one who died in the fighting because he fought with his assistants including Maj Abubakar who was in charge of fighting in that battalion and Capt Selekeso who was the head of Kiyambi Company.

About 200 FARDC troops who were members of the special commandos of the battalion known as “Anaconda,” which fell on Kicwa hill yesterday during their battle with M23, were killed by M23 in this arduous battle.

On the side of FDLR/FOCA, about 20 members of the special group known as “CRAP” led by Lt. Noheri were killed in this fight while they were fighting on the side of FARDC on Killing Hill.

One of the FARDC soldiers who managed to survive, was heard on social media talking with many tears where he said ” Now it’s just that. Col Aimedo and his informant who was in charge of fighting Maj Abubakl and Capt Selekeso who was the head of company Kiyambi were killed by M23 in the fighting that took place on Thursday between the hours of sasaba and 8am. We have lost many soldiers and now there are only tears..”

The capture of Kicwa Hill gives M23  the control of the Sake-Kitshanga road.

The M23 group continues to fight towards Masisi Territory and  also focusing on capturing other important areas in Rutshuru Territory.
