Movies to Watch with Your Boyfriend

You may not be able to head your local Blockbuster to pick a movie together, but with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and oh so many more streaming services, the options of movies to watch with your boyfriend is essentially endless.

For those of you struggling to work together, the following movies to watch with your boyfriend should get you started on your next at-home date night.

1. Up

If you believe in adventure and adorableness, then watch this movie together. Whether you’ve already seen it or not, you can’t watch this one enough.

This sweet and heart-warming cartoon follows a grumpy old man on a life-long journey that is hilariously interrupted with a young scout, a dog, and much more chaos. Why is this a good movie to watch with your boyfriend? It is full of fun, laughter, and even a few tears.

2. 50 First Dates

So your boyfriend keeps telling you you’re so forgetful? Then hit the couch together, grab some popcorn, and watch this Adam Sandler flick. Enjoy the laughs you share, especially with the ever-present Rob Schneider in the cast.

This flick is about a playboy who falls in love with a girl with no short-term memory due to an accident. So now, he makes it his mission to get her to fall in love with him every day. And who is this lucky lady? None other than the talented and gorgeous Drew Barrymore.

3. Along Came Polly

A perfect mix of quirky, funny, and unpredictability *well, sort of* from an unlikely pair: hot Jennifer Aniston and the comic Ben Stiller. This romantic comedy helps ease you into the many discomforts you go through early in the relationship. This flick highlights everything from having sex with a new partner to suffering from embarrassing bathroom incidents.

This is a good movie to watch with your boyfriend because it shows how two very opposite people can still be attracted to each other and how they make things work.

4. Slumdog Millionaire

This movie is an undying testament to how game shows like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire can change your life. Well, no. Seriously, this movie is one of those intelligently done films.

And this isn’t just any love story. This film shares the beautiful and heartbreaking journey of a boy from the slums and his journey to being part of the infamous game show, finding love, and more. Overall, a great movie if you and your boyfriend want to be enveloped in an intense and adventurous story.

5. Love and Basketball

This is a chick flick with an underlying sports theme that is wonderfully well done. It has gone down as a romantic classic for a reason.

It follows a childhood relationship into adulthood, and portrays the difficulties of balancing family life, careers, and relationships. If you are craving a romance and your boyfriend is in the mood for sports, this with satisfy you both.

6. A Quiet Place

The popular movie starring real-life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt will terrify you and move you. This horror film is not what you’d expect. It shows the struggles of a family trying to survive monsters that hunt sound.

Not only will you love cuddling up with your guy for the scarier scenes, but it is a good movie to watch with your boyfriend because it has something for everyone.

7. The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a commitment, but a worthwhile one. These films tell the story of the fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Adding this collection of films to your viewing list will please your boyfriend to no end.

This is a multilayered epic about friendship, loyalty, and love. Watching this trilogy together will bond you. Not only will the story reach even the deepest parts of your soul, but the length of time you’ll sit and enjoy the acting, the plot, and the cinematography will bond you.

8. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

With the charming and ageless Kate Hudson paired up with hunky fellow A-lister Matthew McConaughey, the result is a movie worth watching many times. Hudson just glows, and McConaughey is every man’s man, making this flick really work. All the mind games, trickery, and battle of wits from both endearing characters prove to be a perfect movie to watch with your boyfriend.

9. Pretty Woman

Playboy billionaire who won’t commit meets southern belle-turned street hooker. An unlikely pair, alright, but it works! This classic romantic movie, stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and explores how love blossoms in the most outrageous setups and in the most unlikely couple.

This may be more of a chick flick than some others on this list, but if you can sit through something like Baywatch for him, he can watch this. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see Julia Roberts for an hour and forty minutes?

10. My Best Friend’s Wedding

Another of the best performances of Julia Roberts, this movie actualizes the belief that there really is no such thing as friendship between men and women because, eventually, one falls for the other. Whether this is similar to your love story or not, the clever comedy and charm of young Cameron Diaz should be enough to suck you in.

11. Star Wars

Ah, this classic. Watch the original three if you really want to enjoy it like a longtime fan.

This is not just a trilogy about space wars but rather about friendship, love, and second chances. This is such a good movie to watch with your boyfriend because he gets the adventure and intensity he wants, but it is so beautifully paired with the emotions that grab your attention.

If you’re anything like most of the world, you’ll love it so much that you’ll want to watch the prequels and sequels as well.

12. Hitch

A little run-of-the-mill rom-com, this movie stars Will Smith in the lead role. He helps guys get their moves on and snag the girls of their dreams. However, Smith himself is a far-cry from smooth and suave as he tries to woo the gorgeous Eva Mendes.

This movie has some gut-wrenching physical comedy scenes as well as the sweet and touching moments you crave.

13. The Big Sick

This movie is based on the true story of how Kumail Nanjiani met and wooed his real-life wife. Your boyfriend will love the awkward moments between Kumail and his girlfriend’s parents as they all navigate the most important woman in their world, being in a coma. It is such a serious story with such heart and humor.

14. The Princess Bride

Obviously, this is a classic, and if you and he haven’t seen it yet, well, I’m losing hope in you. But, even if you’ve seen it, I’m guessing it has been a hot minute since then. So, sit back and relax while Westley and Buttercup go through trial and tribulations with the help of some unlikely friends to ultimately find their happy ending.

This is a movie for the young, the old, and everyone in between. If your boyfriend doesn’t like this movie, it may be time for find a new boyfriend. I’m kidding. Sort of.

15. Deadpool

If you wanted the perfect movie to watch with your boyfriend, this and its sequel, Deadpool 2 are what you want. This is hilariously dark and raunchy, yet it has those touching moments of romance you want too. It has gorey action and violence mixed with a shockingly heartbreaking story about a man who would do anything to survive and save the love of his life.

Ryan Reynolds kills in his performance as Deadpool. If you want to laugh your head off and maybe shed a few tears, this is the movie you need to watch now.

16. Titanic

Of course, a classic. This movie doesn’t even have to try to be part of the list. It’s just a beautiful, heart-warming-and-then-heart-crushing tale of two strangers of different social classes who meet in a grand ship, only to be pulled apart by tragedy.

Excellently crafted, with plenty of unforgettable scenes, such as when Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack, draws Rose, played by Kate Winslet. Surely, your boyfriend would love to watch the movie a few more times just for this scene.

17. Always Be My Maybe

This is a newer and maybe less well-known movie, but that shouldn’t take away from its perfection. Co-written and starring comedians Ali Wong and Randall Park, this romantic comedy is so unexpected and refreshing.

It follows the lives of two childhood friends into their careers and a newfound relationship. But their history and differing lifestyles throw a wrench in their plans and could end not just their romance but also their friendship. With the addition of some killer scenes starring Keanu Reeves, you and your boyfriend will crack up.

18. I Love You, Man

This buddy comedy isn’t just for your man. Paul Rudd stars as a wonderful boyfriend who just happened to have no friends of his own. That is until he meets, Jason Segel’s character and they start bonding over some super unique stuff.

Their friendship is the bromance every guy dreams of and is seen through the most hilarious lens. The guest stars in this movie alone make it perfect for you to watch with your boyfriend.

19. Bridesmaids

You know that time in your life when you’re single, you haven’t figured out your career, and it seems like every moment that could turn out badly does? That is what this movie centers around. Kristen Wiig stars as Annie, a failed bakery owner, letting men treat her poorly, who is just at a bad spot, but whose best friend is marrying the love of her life.

An oddball group of ladies gets together for the bridal events, and so much nonsense ensues. Sure, it is a mostly female cast, but that’s what makes it so great. You and your boyfriend will adore this movie.

20. Friends With Benefits

Did you have a FWB situation with your boyfriend before you settled down? Even if you didn’t, this sexy and hilarious rom-com starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis will make you wish you had. It is clever, joyous, and have some awesome cameos from Emma Stone and even Shaun White.

This is a good movie to watch with your boyfriend because it is simple fun. It doesn’t require a ton of emotion or thought. It is just your classic romantic comedy, but not so cutesy.

21. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This is the movie that started the male-driven romantic comedies. Instead of following a sad woman who is single or dealing with heartbreak, this movie stars Jason Segel trying to come to terms with a major breakup. But, when he takes a trip to unwind, his ex is there with her new beau.

It shows the deepest lows of a breakup and the awkwardness that is facing an ex that you’re just not over. Your man will definitely find this relatable and you will find it oddly insightful.

22. You’ve Got Mail

Okay, this may have made this list because it is one of my personal favorites, but it is still worthy of this list regardless of my personal feelings. This classic 90s romantic comedy stars the one and only Tom Hanks, and the rom-com icon herself, Meg Ryan.

Sure, this may not have the hot sex scenes, action, or even intense humor that some other movies on this list have, but, so what? What more could you want than two dueling bookstore owners in New York catching feelings for each other?

23. About Time

This is a sweet movie about love, life, and a unique father son relationship. This isn’t necessarily a comedy, but an underrated one. It shows a young man come of age and learning that like his father, he can go back in time. With this new power, he struggles to use it to his advantage.

Through love, parenthood, and loss, he learns the true meaning of life while having some funny encounters along the way. It may sound somewhat deep, and that’s because it is, but it is driven with a remarkable cast and clever dialogue.

24. Marley and Me

Trying to convince your boyfriend to adopt a dog with you? Well, this movie could really push him either way. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson star as a couple that adopt a puppy and it follows that trio throughout marriage, kids, and more.

This sweet comedy is more than romance. It shows how a pet, even a crazy one, can truly impact your life. Just a warning, have a box of tissues ready.

25. We’re the Millers

Another Jennifer Aniston led comedy, but this one is much more rated R. With amazing casting additions like Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Nick Offerman, you cannot go wrong. The Millers, a made up family trying to get an RV of drugs across the border come across some unique characters that make their trip a bit more than they bargained for.

This isn’t just hilarious, but it even has some pretty sweet and romantic moments as well. Don’t get me wrong, the intense level of comedy overpowers them, but they’re there if you want them.

26. Meet The Parents

This Ben Stiller classic that casts Robert DeNiro as former CIA future father-in-law is comedy gold. This is the perfect movie to watch with your boyfriend to prepare him for meeting your parents. It will show him the worst of the worst things that could happen, so he’s ready for anything.

27. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

This is one of Jim Carrey’s most underrated films. Co-starring Kate Winslet, this movie deals with the fallout after a breakup. It is a balance of sci-fi, romance, and indie genres. There really isn’t a better way to explain, so you’ll just have to watch.

Suppose it seems like something you or your boyfriend might not like. Then, I encourage you to give it a chance. My boyfriend actually got me to watch it because he likes it so much, and I am now a convert.

28. A Star is Born

There are number of versions of this movie, but I have to recommend the most recent starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. This modern version of a classic story is heartbreaking, beautiful, and cinematic perfection.

I do also want to let you know that it is NOT a musical if you and your boyfriend are firmly against those. This movie features rock music, a little pop, and some amazingly vocalized ballads, but they work with the plot, and there are no choreographed dance numbers. However, the chemistry and vocals shared between the stars are unmatched and cannot be missed.

29. Forrest Gump

This is an epic love story for the ages. Tom Hanks absolutely kills his role as a young man facing bullies, reality, and politics while being raised by a single mother in the south. His life experiences span the globe as he finds true friendship, love, and more than ever imagined.

30. Bicentennial Man

I had to include at least one Robin Williams classic on this list. This movie takes place in the not-so-distant future. Williams plays a robot butler who falls in love with his human family and has humanity within him that is so unique.

The movie follows him through generations as he learns what it truly means to be a family, be in love, and be human.
