Serge Ngenzi, aka Neg G, alongside members of the Tuff Gang crew which pioneered street rap in Rwanda, are returning to the stage after spending many years without appearing on any line-up of big concerts and festivals that stage in the country.

The old school hip hop musicians have been announced as the main headliners of the ‘Nyega Nyega and Skol Lager’ concert slated for 2-3 June, in Huye.

The concert, which aims to bring artistes closer to their fans in different parts of the country, kicked off in Muhanga, progressed to Musanze, and made a stop in Kigali before heading to Huye where they are scheduled to take place on June 2-3, 2023.

Reacting to the development, Neg G said that it is a blessing to be back on stage and interact with his fans whom he has missed a lot.

“I don’t remember the last time I performed for many people, but I know I have songs that will make a good show. I am curious to know how this performance will go since I spent many years without interacting with fans. Can’t wait!” he said.

The rapper will be joined on the stage by the likes of Bull Dogg, P Fla and Fireman who are already part of the Tuff Gang group which is plotting a comeback with an EP that will be out in the next few weeks.

Other artistes on the line-up include Ish Kevin, Zeo Trap, B Threy, Papa Cyangwe and Kevin Kade.

The upcoming shows will happen during the finals of the Peace Cup which will bring together Kiyovu Sports and Mukura, as well as the third place game of the league between APR FC and Rayon Sports.

Neg G the General won hearts of many music lovers after releasing notorious smashing hit songs like Ibiceri, Internat, Abashomeri, Agaca, and Karara.

Who is Neg G?

Neg G is one of the popular Rwandan artistes who doubles as also a producer. He was born on June 30, 1987, in Nyamirambo.

He started schooling in Kabusunzu where he completed his primary school. He later joined secondary school at ETO Kicukiro up to O level before finalising his secondary school at St. Joseph Kabgayi.

Neg G’s love for music started at a tender age of six when he could fondly listen to Alpha Blondy’s music and mime his songs.

However his taste for music soon changed dramatically, changing from the slow and soothing reggae music, to the more sophisticated rap music.

It wasn’t long before he purchased a hip-hop album of one of the rap stars. It was Eminem’s ‘The Slim Shady’ album that he bought and it immediately had an impact on him making him want to be a rap artist.

In 2004, Neg G teamed up with his friend M.I.M and formed UTP Soldiers. They immediately started producing hits which became popular amongst Rwandans especially the youth.

In 2006, their number increased to three when G Ryder (Riderman) joined the group. However this bond did not last long and in 2008 Riderman left the group and later on he was replaced by Puff G. Though Neg G was involved in a group, he released many popular solo tracks including ‘Ibiceri’, ’Vacance’, ’Parlez’ , ’Superstar’, etc.

In October 2010, he launched his debut album dubbed ‘Agaca Mu Gicu’ which was produced by Lick Lick, Davydenko, Dr Jack, among others.

Ever since then, Neg G disappeared from the limelight after being jailed several times over drug abuse. He later made a comeback in the music industry in 2022 after dropping an extended play dubbed ‘Misire’ which consisted of many dissing tracks.
