Rwanda names provisional squads for FIBA U-16 Zone V qualifiers

The local basketball governing body, FERWABA, has named the provisional teams that will represent the country at the Under-16 Zone V African Basketball Championship qualifiers due in Kigali from June 27-30.

The teams comprise 18 players from each of the boys and girls squads.

The Rwandan U-16 boys and girls teams are under the stewardship of Patrick Habiyaremye and Jacques Bahige respectively.

According to the federation, the teams are expected to enter a training camp next week.

The qualifiers are expected to attract 10 countries namely Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Egypt, Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and the hosts Rwanda.

After the qualifiers, the teams that will make it to the finals of the African nations tournament that will take place in Tunisia from July 13-22. The host city is yet to be confirmed.

While Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Mali Uganda and hosts Tunisia have already qualified for the continental showpiece, six remaining tickets will be determined through the qualifiers in Kigali.

The continental tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup for men and women.
