Tottenham 2-2 Man United as Spurs claw back for valiant draw in top four race

Tottenham 2-2 Man United as Spurs claw back for valiant draw in top four race

Manchester United, up two goals at halftime thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, seemed en route to a cakewalk three points and closing the door in the top-four battle.

45 minutes later, the Red Devils still control the race, but there’s a lot more questions to be answered after goals from Pedro Porro and Heung-Min Son saw Spurs claw back to share the points with a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While neutral fans will have enjoyed the open, entertaining match, the result, in truth, will be disappointing for both sides. Man United will be frustrated to have thrown away a game in which they were in complete control, while Tottenham came in knowing they needed three points to remain realistically in the hunt for a Champions League place.

At the end of the 90 minutes, Tottenham remain six points adrift of fourth place Man United with just five matches left. United also hold two games in hand, and will be comfortable in their position, but know that capitulating in that manner won’t do them any favours either down the stretch of this season or heading into the coming campaign.
