Alejandro Garnacho is Man Utd’s new hero after win at Fulham

Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench to net a dramatic injury-time winner in a 2-1 win for Manchester United against Fulham on Sunday in the final game before the Premier League pauses for the World Cup.Alejandro Garnacho is Man Utd’s new hero after win at Fulham

Alejandro Garnacho

Aged 18 years and 135 days, Garnacho is the youngest player to score a 90th-minute winner in the Premier League since Federico Macheda against Aston Villa, also for Manchester United, in April 2009 (17y 226d).

Winning it at the death

Full time: Fulham 1 Man Utd 2

Fulham have felt the force of Manchester twice in last-minute cruelness in successive weekends.

Garnacho has just delivered a moment of brilliance, breaking Fulham hearts.

There is a new star on the lips of Manchester United fans. Garnacho’s finish to this game was a revelation.

United cement their position in fifth, going four points clear of Liverpool and within three of Spurs in fourth with one game in hand.

GOAL! Fulham 1 Man Utd 2 (Garnacho, 90+2)

Garnacho, the 18-year-old has done it! It’s happened to Marco Silva and Fulham again – deep into added time as it did at Manchester City last weekend.

It’s a one-two with Eriksen, cutting in down the left and storming past Reid before firing past Leno.

90 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Three minutes of added time to come.

A sub for Fulham: Cairney comes off for Onomah

89 mins Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Fernandes with a head across goal from the left side of the six-yard box, but there aren’t enough red shirts in there and Fulham can clear. Fernandes looks a bit frustrated – Malacia looked like the most advanced United player.

87 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

A long range headed effort from McTominay after United build-up through the left channel – but it’s fairly easy for Leno to save.

If a goal’s coming from anywhere for United, you’d fancy it to come through Shaw, Rashford and Garnacho up that left-hand side.

84 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Long ball played over the top to the surging run of Fernandes, he takes a tumble, Robinson the man on him, but it doesn’t look there’s anything on that.

81 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Fernandes with an uncharacteristic wild cross from the right byline. He had McTominay in the box, but he’s massively overcooked that. Pretty wasteful really.

79 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Fulham with a free kick, wide right, 15 yards out.

Pereira to take… Palhinha pulls away to the edge of the box and he’s got a free header, but he can’t steer it on target. A clever move, but lacking the finish.

Palhinha’s overhead kick

76 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

James on the burst into the D… he cuts it back to his left towards Willian, but it’s behind his man and the attack fizzles out.

74 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

Garnacho is eased over by Reid inside the box, on the left. Var has a look at it, but there’s nothing on there.

71 mins: Fulham 1 Man Utd 1

James is played well down the right channel, getting past Martinez for pace. A couple of players were expecting the cross first time, but James instead cuts back onto his left and chips in allowing United to head away. Fulham are getting stronger in the game here. Not much on for United over the past 10 minutes.

From the corner, Palhinha has a spectacular overhead kick effort punched away by De Gea back into the danger zone. James is first the follow-up at goal, but De Gea gathers this one.

Garnacho comes on for Martial.

And here’s the replay

Dan James’s finish

GOAL! Fulham 1 Man Utd 1 (James 61)

Dan James, the man who has just come on!

Willian drives down the left, he plays the overlap ball to Cairney who crosses in to the six-yard box, James getting ahead of Shaw and tapping in past De Gea. It was all about his positioning there – and the ball from Cairney, perfectly placed into the danger zone.

Two cracking saves in quick succession from De Gea

58 mins: Fulham sub

Wilson makes way for James.

One Welshman for another.

55 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Reid, to Pereira down the right. Pereira puts a solid ball in, but Willian doesn’t drift goal side of Malacia, allowing the Man Utd man to head the ball out for a corner.

55 mins: Man Utd sub

Elanga makes way for McTominay.

51 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Wilson knocks one in from the right side of the box, picking out Vinícius who swivels and shoots with conviction… but it’s saved well by De Gea.

Moments later, Ream with a header at the far post forces an instinctive save from De Gea. Best chance of the half for Fulham.

50 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Martial receives the ball edge of the area and gets a strong shot away, through the Fulham bodies ahead of him.

Leno dives and smothers the ball. A moderate test for the Fulham keeper.

49 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Elanga is in! It’s a ball over the top from the left, Elanga timing his run well in behind Reid and Diop.

Leno makes the save from Elanga’s shot inside the area, but he makes a bit of a mess of it and doesn’t get it out of the danger zone. Rashford rifles the follow-up, but that’s deflected out by Leno this time.

46 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Lindelof concedes an early corner – Fulham again capitalising down their left.

The ball’s headed out to Cairney who has a dig from the edge of the D. Not a good effort though – he doesn’t connect with it well at all.

Kick off

Fulham get us back under way.

Half time: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

United look good for their lead and Eriksen’s far post tap in is the difference at Craven Cottage – although he could’ve had a second moments before half time.

Malacia has been troubled as a makeshift right-back for United – this seems to be the only way through for Fulham at the moment who have been rather flimsy in the rest of midfield.

45 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Eriksen is in again!

It’s played long to Elanga down the inside-right channel, he clips it back to Fernandes who squares across to Eriksen a couple of yards inside the area. He takes aim and shoots… it’s only a foot wide.

39 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Shaw dinks one in from the left after a patient period of Man Utd build up play. It’s a nice ball it, pin point to Martial who is relatively clear.

Martial tries to glance it on, but he gets a bit too much on it, sending it a foot over Leno’s crossbar.

36 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Some ball in from Pereira on the right. Some whip on that, looking for Willian at the far post, but Malacia is there first, who passes it behind for another Fulham corner which is dealt with by United at the front post.

35 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

The resulting corner finds Willian in space on the right edge of the box. He hits first time, but gets his technique all wrong and slices it over De Gea’s goal.

34 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Willian gets the better of Malacia down the left flank. He gets a cross away, but there’s no Mitrovic today and it’s only a red shirt on the end of that.

Malacia just been done by Robinson now. To his credit, he does recover and slides in to stop the cross.

Eriksen’s goal

29 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Martial! He gets the shot away, but it slips under Leno. Leno takes enough pace off it though and is able to turnaround and pounce on the ball before it crosses his goal line.

Martial’s looked lively tonight. He’s had a couple of close chances and is getting into intelligent positions in the final third.

27 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Wilson’s cut inside from the right and tests De Gea with a curling left-footed power shot from the edge of the United box decent effort, but a little too close to the United keeper.

It all started from Ream on the byline up the other end. A really nice move from the home side to move the ball up the pitch.

25 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Big save from De Gea!

Pereira rolls Martinez, plays a brilliant ball in behind the Man Utd back line to pick out Wilson, who slides and shoots at the front post, but De Gea reacts brilliantly and deflects the ball away.

Flag went up anyway. Wilson was marginally offside.

24 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Vinícius is played down the left by Pereira from the centre circle, the Fulham strike runs pretty much the entire length of United’s half, having the edge on Malacia. He cuts inside and shoots but it deflects of Malacia for a throw.

21 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Rashford is picked out by Fernandes terrifically. It’s from a fairly deep position on the right, but it’s into that perfect danger-zone spot, edge of the six-yard box predicting the run of the England forward to the inch.

Rashford’s stuck in two minds though and decides to control – but the first touch is heavy and Leno gathers.

19 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 1

Pereira plays Willian in down the inside-left channel. He has a dig, but it’s deflected out for a corner.

Fulham are some joy down Man Utd’s right-hand side. Willian’s just cut inside again here and gone for a shot. Over the crossbar. United will want to tighten up there.

GOAL! Fulham 0 Man Utd 1 (Eriksen, 14)

United spring a quick attack, Casemiro winning the ball in the centre circle. He threads the ball forward to Martial who leads the midfield charge. Martial squares to Fernandes on his left, who then spots Eriken making the run at the far post, picking out the Dane who slides it over

12 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 0

Leno plays out from the back, Cairney wining out against the United press, keeping a level head. It’s spread to the left, Fulham trying to get something on here with a lot of United players up the other end of the pitch. But again, the final ball is lacking. United will build now.

11 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 0

Fulham keep the ball nicely, under pressure, and it’s worked over to Robinson on the left. He sets his sights and crosses in to the danger area, but  the red shirts are there first.

10 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 0

Ball played over the top to Martial, over the Fulham back line… but he can’t get the ball under control. Leno gathers. He would’ve been onside there.

8 mins: Fulham 0 Man Utd 0

Martial goes close. Rashford bends his run inside, played in from a ball from Shaw from the left-back position.

Rashford cuts it to Martial who stumbles as he shoots – not the cleanest strike, but he earns his side a corner.
